Matt Nieslanik -- Team Roper

Matt Nieslanik, Carbondale resident, grew up on a ranch and was taught cattle roping by his father when he was ten. Working on the ranch he often used his roping skills to manage cattle. He enjoyed roping on the ranch and decided to take his skills into the competitive arena approximately 5 years ago. Since then he as been successful at many events and has won three buckles, a saddle and cash prizes. He specializes in roping the head of the steer known as heading. He has a fast horse named Pete. He has taught his two young sons to rope, continuing the tradition.

Kelsea Mulcahy -- Rodeo Queen / Barrel Racer

I have been an active competitor for six years now, but I have had a passion for horses my entire life.  The horse that I currently race is named Lightning.  She is an eleven-year-old Tobiano Paint/Quarter horse that I have had since she was two.  We have a very unique bond because I was the only person to ever ride and train her.  I also have a new horse that I am training on barrels now, named Turbo Twang.  I usually compete in the local rodeos, last year I won the Snowmass Rodeo Buckle and recently I won a saddle at a barrel race in Eagle.  At the rodeos I like to help and watch other events.  Occasionally I will be a runner in the Dally Ribbon Roping event. During the winter I attend the University of Wyoming and study Agricultural Business. "Ride 'em like you stole 'em!"

Trey Fonner -- Bull Rider

I grew up in farm country, a small town of 400 people in the Midwest. When I was 21 I started my career as a bull rider and I have been riding since then. I have been a member of the International Pro Rodeo Association (IPRA), Illinois Bull riders Association (IBRA) and a permit holder in the

Professional Rodeo Association (PRCA). Today I call Silt my hometown where I live with my fiancée Cheri Brown. Although I don't travel too far to ride any longer, I ride frequently in the Snowmass and Carbondale Wild West Rodeo Series. I also serve as the arena director at the Carbondale Rodeo Series. After years of riding, it is no surprise the body is starting to give up but my mind is willing. I am told as I get older I will regret riding when the arthritis sets in and old injuries re-surface. I don't think so. You gotta get out and live life to enjoy it. So as I say "LIFE'S SHORT, RIDE HARD".

Sydney Horwitz -- Barrel Racer

It all started when I moved from Cincinnati, Ohio to Carbondale.  I began volunteering at a non-profit organization, Sopris Therapy Services, where they get disabled people on horses.  I have been riding and training horses now, since I was 12.  I have raced many horses since I started barrel racing but I currently race Pardner, a twelve- year-old Quarter Horse from Arizona.  I have had him for five years.  He is my hero.  In the first year I had him, he broke his leg.  It took him a year to recover, but now we are back in action.  I am currently going to school at University of Wyoming in Laramie and getting a dual major in Pre-Veterinary Animal Science and Agricultural Education.  I like riding in the local summer rodeos and I am sponsored by Maroon Bells Outfitters.  I won the Carbondale Rodeo buckle in 2003.  I hope that everyone can find a true passion that they really love as much I have found.

"Horseback riding is the art of keeping the horse between you and the ground!"
