2024 CarbondAle Rodeo
Photographers

We are excited to welcome back Paula Wood as the official Carbondale Wild West Rodeo photographer for the upcoming season. Paula shares her enthusiasm for creating a collaborative team, including photo students, past photographers, and local professionals, to capture the events effectively.  Her work is showcased throughout our website, social media pages, and beyond.

While the lead position is filled, there are still open dates available for coverage in the 2024 season. If you’re interested in joining as a second shooter or working a rodeo independently, please email Paula Wood at: [email protected]

In 2015, Paula rode out on horseback in search of wild mustangs in the San Luis Valley. Little did she know that this trip would change the course of her life. A native New Englander, this was her first exploration of the American West. And she never looked back.

“I am a visual storyteller, capturing unvarnished moments as they unfold. I feel the tenets of American Western heritage are as important today as they were for our pioneer settlers. In rural communities, where much of the food we eat is farmed and raised, families rely on families in ways suburbanites can’t imagine. Finding common ground between a community’s needs and an individual’s sense of what’s right feels increasingly hard. Photography is my medium for creating the sense of community we all once relied on to survive.”

Hey there, I’m Brittany Gavegan.

I grew up competing in this arena running barrels, team roping and breakaway roping before moving to Arizona in 2017. I grew up going to rodeos as well as catching memories with my camera in hand. I’ve had a lot of opportunities to enhance my photography skills and I feel my skills have grown immensely. It feels great to be back at my old stomping grounds. Even if I am not competing in this awesome rodeo, I’m thrilled to be a part of it behind the lens. I look forward to escaping to the cool mountains for a few weeks this July and creating some magic behind the lens for you at the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo!

A fourth generation ranch kid from Maybell CO, Chelsee grew up raising and showing cattle. Today you can still find her on the ranch with her dog Finn.

While showing, Chelsee fell in love with the photography and marketing side of the business. Acquiring her first “real” camera after high school, she taught herself the tricks of the trade.

Nowadays she and Finn travel the Western US helping ranches market and sell their cattle.

‘Capturing moments has always been a passion of mine. Watching someone’s face light up when you show them the photos you took, in the moment, doing what they love – that’s what drives me. I started shooting professionally in 2017 and have worked for several different media companies before starting my own, Blacktimber Media. From flying in helicopters, to gun ranges with the United States Marshal Service Special Operations Group, I’ve got to travel and meet incredible people doing what I love. Now, I want to see what I can capture with rodeo. My family owns a ranch near Kim, CO and most of my friends either rodeo, manage a ranch, or are involved in that lifestyle in some way shape or form. I’m excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started!’
